Stormy August Nights

I am awake at 3:33 AM with a terrified dog who is frightened of thunderstorms. I figure since I have to be awake anyway, I might as well do something productive. If the storm lasts long enough, I might even get some knitting done.

Seems to me I wrote not so awful long ago about how important it is to read patterns. That has been rearing its ugly head again recently. I am working on a pair of socks that has been kicking my butt. They are toe up and I thought I was ready to turn the heel only to grab the pattern and find out I was supposed to have started a gusset a few rows back. Arghhhhh! So I rip back an inch or so and start the gusset. I am going along fine until I actually do start turning the heel when I misread the directions. I read (Slip 1, K 1) repeat 14 times as Slip 1 K 1, K 14, which totally did not make sense. Only had to rip out 2 or 3 times before the light bulb went on and I figured it out.

Then today, actually yesterday, based on the date, during a talk with one of my favorite knitting gurus at my local LYS, I realized that I will not be able to just pick up stitches and knit the sleeves down on my Purple Wine Red Top. I want to knit a few rows of the lace motif from the sweater into the sleeve and I can't reverse the chart and have it come out looking the same, darn it all. And since the original pattern doesn't even have sleeves, I am making this up as I go along. :-) So now the idea is to pick up stitches and start the top of the sleeve, then knit a sleeve from the bottom up, with the lace motif and graft the two together.... Wish me luck!

Sounds like the storm has moved on so I will continue with my previously interrupted sleep.
